Acrypol gives Welsh walkways new lease of life

Thanks to Acrypol and the company’s revolutionary waterproofing solutions Quartzdek, the elderly residents of Llys Tylcha Fawr in Tonyrefail, South Wales, can rest assured that their newly refurbished staircases and walkways now offer optimum levels of safety and slip resistance.

In the fast application completed in just eight working days, whilst causing minimal disruption of the residents. 155m2 of Quartzdek was installed onto a series of walkways and staircases serving 32 one-bedroom flats owned by Hafod Housing Association. With a product required that could deliver outstanding snit-slip properties with proven waterproofing integrity while also improving the building’s external aesthetic – Quartzdek proved the perfect solution.

For the installation, the existing deck was first sealed with a coating of Quartzdek resin, thinned by 50% with a universal thinner. After an eight hour period, a further coat of Quartzdek was applied in 1M widths. While still wet, the Quartzdek granules were then scattered evenly over the surface before being left to cure for eight hours. All excess quartz was then brushed or vacuumed away to be re-used.

Available in a range of variegated colour mixes and made from real quartz granules, Quartzdek is fast and cost effective to install to almost any pedestrian surface. The secret behind Quartzdek granules which are applied over an incredible tough, flexible polyurethane waterproof resin, all sealed and bonded together with a final layer of resin.

Responsible for transforming the safety and looks of public walkways, stairs and balconies for Local Authorities and Housing Associations throughout the UK, Quartzdek combines high performance waterproofing with the safety of a slip resistant surface that also looks great.
