Acrypol + revitalises the ‘vanity’ factory

For the refurbishment and conversion of the former Elizabeth Arden Perfume Factory in Acton, now a Sapcote Developments’ business centre and whose employees once included the legendary Elvis Costello, it was vital that the roof was made watertight using a tried and tested waterproofing system. Offering reliability, easy application and a 5 year life expectancy, Acrypol + from the UK’s leading manufacturer of cold applied acrylic polymer waterproof solutions proved the ideal solution.

Prior to the commencement of interior office works, the client Sapcote Developments appointed specialist contractor Barski Developments Ltd to undertake the complete overhaul of the 1700M2 duo pitched roofing system. Acrypol + was specified for its proven track record with industrial, commercial and domestic flat roofs.

The duo pitched roof incorporated asbestos cement sheets which due to the complexities of removal required a roofing system which could not only be cold applied over the existing surface but also be applied during a wet weather. Supplied in Solar White colour, Acrypol + was brushed applied over the surface and any asbestos fixings to provide a seamless and durable waterproof finish. For the exposed side and end laps to the asbestos sheeting, Acrypol flexible reinforcement scrim was applied with the entire roof being sealed with Acrypol AS8000 to provide a perfectly sealed membrane.

‘As Acrypol approved installers the application process was straightforward. With the support from our dedicated Acrypol area manager who was a part of the process from start to finish, we managed to successfully complete the waterproofing of the roof and gutters’ commented Annie McCall Projects Manager, Barski Developments Ltd. ;After the recent torrential rain, the building has remained dry and watertight and we look forward to using the product again.

Acrypol + does not require the contractor to use adhesives or bitumen on site, and therefore reduces health and safety risks especially associated with building which must remain fully operational during refurbishment.

Acrypol + provided immediate, tough and durable waterproof protection by stopping leaks and encapsulating the perimeter guttering. Any trapped moisture in the substrate was able to evaporate harmlessly into the atmosphere, allowing the product’s unique compound to bond quickly and efficiently.

Thanks to the 5 year specification of Acrypol + repair system, the former Elizabeth Arden Perfume Factory is on track to open as a contemporary business centre in the summer of 2012 and will continue to offer watertight protection for many years to come
